have taught
school for 20 years, 18 of those at my current
assignment as a physics teacher at Cypress Creek High School in the
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, a suburb of Houston, Texas.
Both my students and I have won local and state awards. It is nice to receive honors
and to work with gifted students; however, one of my primary goals over the last ten years
has been to help students learn physics in a way in which they can relate my subject to
their everyday
lives. Teaching physics is exciting. Each year brings in a new group of students
who develops enthusiasm and an appreciation for the laws of physics and
how these laws affect their lives. Finding new ways to help students
learn about the world around them gives me great pleasure. The monetary
rewards associated with teaching are small, but knowing that you have
changed how students view their world is worth more than money can buy.
