Activity: Students can choose a language they want to know more of and learn various words they'll need to know while traveling. They can even practice their pronunciation skills by listening to the words using RealAudio Player.
Time to complete: 30 minutes
Comments: This is a great mini-activity for students preparing to take a student trip abroad! There are more than 70 languages to choose from. Students can choose to learn from basic words, numbers, shopping/dining, travel, directions, places, times, and dates.

  Audience: Grades K-12
  Difficulty level: Moderate to Challenging
  Activity: Students are challenged to guess the definitions of unusual words. They are also allowed to make up definitions for words that will eventually be used as the words to define in future games. An added bonus is that students can check back in two weeks to see how many people chose their made-up definitions.
  Time to complete: Less than 15 minutes
  Comments: Teacher tips are included to give suggestions on how to best use the game. Also, there are extensive archives that can be used as well.

  Activity: This game allows students to match letters of the alphabet with pictures of objects that start with that particular letter. There are also two other games on the page. This is perfect for new readers.

  Comments: Before playing the game, make sure you follow the directions. By loading the pictures you can ensure that the game will move along quickly.
  Special requirements: JavaScript game requires Netscape 3.0 or higher to play.
  Volcanoes of the United States Matching Game

  Audience: Grades 5-12
  Difficulty level: Difficult
  Activity: This game gives students the following challenge. Rocky wants to go on a trip and see some of the volcanoes of the USA. In order to see those volcanoes, he has to know which states they are in. Help Rocky plan his trip by showing him where each volcano on his list is at. Use your mouse to click on the name of a volcano. Then click on the state you think that volcano is in.
  Time to complete: 30 minutes
  Comments: To get the most out of this activity it might be wise to give the students access to some resource they can use to find the correct answer. Otherwise, there will just be a lot of guessing going on.
